Home of Vick Veera
Vicknes Vinayak Veerappan a.k.a Vick Veera started his musical journey at the age of 13. He won a Silver medal ( SYF indoor band competition 1989 ), Gold Medal ( SYF outdoor band competition 1991 ), Colours Award in 1990 as a member of Bowen Secondary School's Military band. He was member of Singapore Schools Percussion Band, a combination of talented percussionist from schools in Singapore from 1989 - 1990 and was involved in performances at NDP 1989, Chingay 1990 and opening of indoor stadium in 1990. After his O' levels, he played for ITE clementi's concert band from 1992-1994 as a student and music society chairman and as an Alumni from 1994 - 1995. During his day's at ITE Clementi, he was involved in many fund raising events for the schools by organizing and producing musical nights which feature musical talents.
After his studies, he went on to coach at Bowen Secondary School's Military band as percussion and drill master. His experience in percussion and drill made him the drill master for NDP 95 for 800 flag boys and girls involved in a Mass Display item which featured 10 of the best school bands in singapore. At NDP 95, he was vital in training/coaching, re-arrangment/composition of percussion music as well as choreography for a 120 strength percussion ensemble which featured talented percussionist from the 10 bands.
Vick served the SAF Music and Drama Company from 1996 - 2001 as a specialist in music. At MDC, he travelled to Rockhampton ( Australia ), Jember, Surabaya ( Indonesia ), Brunei, Qurat ( Thailand ) to perform for the public and singapore forces based there. Apart from serving the SAF MDC, Vick was involved in National Youth Percussion Festival 2003, where his was assistant instructor to coach a 200 member strongth Brazilian Battarie.
Vick had his 1st big break into the professional scene when he was called up to be drummer/percussionist for the longest running musical in singapore's history " Chang & Eng The Musical " under the baton of Mr. Iskander Ismail, a award winning music director, producer. From then on, he continued his journey with the production for another 2 seasons which played more than 100 over shows both locally, in Beijing ( PRC ), Kuala Lumpur ( Malaysia ) and Bangkok ( Thailand ). He then went on to perform for musicals like Forbidden City ( 2003, 2006 ), Admiral's Oddessey, Man of Letters, Lau Jiu, Cabaret, Tian Leng ( 2007, 2009 ) and Magic Box. He has also performed for Musical cabarets like Bibiks Go Broadway, Dim Sum Dollies ( History of Singapore 2008, 2009 ), Broadway Beng Returns and Crazy Christmas 2008.
Vick was soon spotted by award winning music director Mr. Goh Keng Long, who has produced albums for international artistes like A-Mei, Jackie Cheung, David Tao. Vick was called in to back up JJ Lin, Taiwan based Singapore artiste for his concert in Shanghai. Vick went on to play for Artiste like David Tao, Stefanie Sun, A-do, etc.Vick has also toured Cannes, Paris ( France ), Berlin ( Germany ), Kuala Lumpur ( Malaysia ) with local award winning world music artiste/producer/musician, Andrew Lum.
Esplanade has never failed to feature Vick at the Mosaic Music Festival for the last 5 years. His experience has seen him back up many artistes from around the world and even open up a concert for UK band " Incognito " with local band " Soulcadelics ". Vick is currently drummer/band leader of local band " Funkers " which has had full house crowds at Mosaic Festival 2009 and Smooth Groove Festival 2009, both at the Esplanade.
Apart from performances, Vick has spend most of his career teaching at local schools. He is well sort after for drum/percussion clinics, workshops and classes. He has also done percussion team building workshops for corporate companies like Singtel, DHL, SKF, CITI Bank NA to name a few. He was even flown in to ****** ( Thailand ) on one occasion to conduct a mass workshop for 400 SKF staff and management.
After spending almost 23 in the music scene as a student, professional musician, Instructor, Facilitator and producer, Vick decided to manage his very own artiste management company, The Music Mosaic in 2009. He currently manages local and foreign bands as well as local and foreign artiste.
